Vehicle Ownership Transfer

TRANSFERRING CAR OWNERSHIP – THE PROCESS

Like any other official process, certain regulations have to be followed to transfer vehicle ownership in the UAE. Both the seller and buyer have to provide a set of mandatory documents to ensure a quick and efficient transfer of ownership.

 

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR INDIVIDUALS

Cars can be either registered in the name of the company or an individual. To transfer car ownership, individuals have to submit the following documents.

Vehicle Ownership Transfer

The seller needs to provide the Emirates ID and mulkiya (vehicle registration card). The seller also needs to provide the original passport copy with the residence visa and in case of a car loan, the final loan payment confirmation. If the car loan is not fully paid off then the seller would need to get a NOC/release letter from the bank.

Buyers must present the following:

Buyers who are UAE or GCC citizens must provide their original and a copy of their Emirates ID, drivers license and passport
Buyers who are UAE residents must submit their original and a copy of their Emirates ID, drivers license and passport and valid residence visa
Diplomats have to provide their valid diplomatic card and a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The official notice for adding mortgage or redeeming electronic mortgage at the bank, if the car is still under the mortgage
Vehicle’s technical inspection certificate, a pass report from Tasjeel
Plate numbers have to be delivered to the centre, in case the seller wishes to keep them
Police report if either plate was lost
Electronic insurance of the car

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR COMPANIES

In case the car is registered in the company’s name, the following documents are required.

Official Arabic letter
Copy of trade licence
Endorsement of signature and authorisation letter
Vehicle ownership certificate
Electronic insurance
Adding mortgage or redeeming electronic mortgage at the bank, if the car is still under the mortgage.
Technical inspection certificate
NOC from the relevant authorities: Jebel Ali Free Zone and Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone (if applicable)
Plate numbers have to be delivered to the centre, in case the seller wishes to keep them
Police report if either plate was lost.
